Default Best Capital City in the West

Pretty self explanatory. Which capital city rules in terms of economy, quality of life, recreation, education, the arts, scenery. The usual criteria.

I love the capital city of my home state. Culturally and architecturally I can't think of anywhere that looks or feels quite like Santa Fe. With countless art galleries, a great restaurant selection, nice museums, and a unique and historical atmosphere, along with a very beautiful high desert and mountain setting, I love Santa Fe, it's a great little city.

I think Denver has the most impressive state capital building out of these choices. Sacramento and Salt Lake have nice capital buildings as well.

Salem, OR, Honolulu, and Juneau all have very dull capital buildings. Especially Honolulu, that one is hideous.

I think Salem's is the worst. It looks like a Mormon temple. But at least they tried.

Juneau's is just an office building.

Best comparison, ever.

Denver takes this easily, but SLC is doing big things, as well.

I'm being completely unbiased here, since I live in seattle. Olympia sucks.I guess Honolulu is cool. But its bearly considered western. Denver is really nice from what I've heard, and driving through some of the smaller capitals e.g. Helena, Cheyenne I've found to be extremely nice. It's just a matter of preference I suppose, for the level of urbanity you find suitable. So anyway, Portland and seattle might be some of the nicest cities around, but that cannot be said for Olympia. Salesman ok tho.

Denver. It's not even close. How do you compare cities with 30k people with those closer to a million? Helena is a nice town and all but the key word here is town.
