Of these three small Midwestern cities, hypothetically, in which would an urbanite most easily adapt and enjoy. I'm looking to consider walkability, diversity, the arts, bars and nightlife, recreation, economy, old historic neighborhoods, and density.

Duluth. Definitely Duluth. It's a beautiful little city. It has that slightly dilapidated port city feel to it with an artsy flair. Lots of shops and restaurants along the waterfront, and the Great Lakes Aquarium is kind of cool. And the setting can't be beat. It's the beginning of Lake Superior's North Shore, and it's close to the Apostle Islands and the north woods.

I'm not crazy about Green Bay. I had relatives that lived there who we'd visit when I was a kid, and I always thought it was a bit dumpy and not a whole lot to do in the city itself aside from going to Packer games. We'd usually just head up to the Door Peninsula, which is really pretty. Though to be fair I haven't been back in probably about 15 years, so not sure what it's like now.

I've never been to Kalamazoo, but my sister used to live in nearby Grand Rapids and would commute for graduate school to Western Michigan University. She didn't like Kalamazoo, she thought it was really boring. I believe Kalamazoo would be the most diverse, with a large African American population.

Duluth seems pretty neat. I haven't been to any of these but a quick google search and streetview definitely makes Duluth seem better.
