I've lived in both, Mass for the city and surrounding towns, Washington for the nature.

To me Seattle is a great city, Boston is just a little bit better. Same goes for the states themselves. I love Washington, but Massachusetts is a little bit better imo.

Good choices - the only one that seems off-base is Education k-12. Massachusetts generally has much better public schools than Washington, and I'm pretty sure school rankings and test scores back that up.

Yea I'm not sure why people are listing them as equals when it comes to k-12 education...from what I see in rankings, it's not even close.

This study shows Massachusetts #1 in the country and Washington State #25. This one ranks Mass #2 and Washington #40.

In terms of standardized test scores, Massachusetts ranks #1, Washington ranks #9.

Location - Mass - much closer to major cities/population centers.
Weather - draw - can be pretty cold in New England, but 3/4 seasons are quite pleasant. Rainy in Washington, but overall more mild.
Scenery - Washington - seems more beautiful to me than Mass, but there are some scenic places there too.
Economy - draw - both are doing better than average, but neither are really exceptional compared to the other.
Cost of living - Washington - If you're trying to live in Eastern Mass, get ready to pay for it. Seattle is expensive too, but overall, you can find more affordable stuff in Washington.
Quality of life - draw - both seem to offer a high quality of life
Education k-12 - Mass, hands down
Education colleges - Mass, hands down
Things to do - Mass - likely because of my bias of living in Boston, but I really think it has more stuff to do than most places in the USA.
Cities - I think I might give a slight edge to Boston over Seattle, but the other cities in the state I can't be so sure. However, I think Boston and Seattle are really different places, so it's hard for me to compare the two. I'd be ok living in Seattle as well.

I'm not sure how you can compare weather between these two states. Sure, there's a considerable difference between the Cape and Berkshires, but I can't imagine being as different as it is from Seattle to Spokane.
