vacation spots that have much larger daily population than actually recorded population suffer in these comparisons because when crime happens, the stats only go against the permanent residents of that city.
Miami Beach has similar issues. I've heard that at any given time, Miami Beach has 250,000 people in its 7 square miles (not sure if that's true or not), however that number includes only 90,000 actual residents. Crime associated with the entire quarter million goes against just the 90,000 permanent residents. I imagine that's what happens to Myrtle Beach as well.

Myrtle Beach is more dangerous than the warzone that is San Bernardino, CA. Yeah, right.
