"Center City" is the whole area from river to river between Girard and Washington?
You can get the "facts" by simply going to the Census website and adding up all of the tracts. You don't need secondary sources when the primary source (the Census) is easily accessible.
Adding up all tracts between Girard and Washington (even including tracts in whole that fall partially outside of those boundaries), we get a total of 134,923. You can only get 170,000+ by going well outside of those boundaries.
That's the 2010 census though. Center City alone has grown 13% since the 2010 census. That's Vine to South River to River and doesn't include any surrounding areas which either grew just as fast or faster. That info is four years old buddy

You still wouldn't get close to 175,000. You just said in one of your posts that the whole city added approximately 27,000 people since 2010.

Even if we assumed that each one of those persons moved to Center City, you would only have about 78,000 people between Vine and South, river to river.

Bajan, I think you're getting confused by what I'm saying. I never disagreed with you that the population of Vine to South River to River is 57,239. I would believe that number to be correct, since the 2010 population of Center City was 51,846 and Center City has grown 13% since then.
I would then say the 2014 population of Spring Garden to South, River to River is about 70,000, and the number between Girard, Washington, River to River is undoubtedly 175,000 as of 2014. The accurate numbers are in the Defining Downtown report that you posted.

The claim seemed straightforward enough.

How is the number between Girard and Washington, River to River, 175,000 when it was only 134,000 in 2010?
The Defining Downtown report is going well south of Washington and north of Girard to get that 170,000 figure.
South Broad Street, also known as Avenue of the Arts between City Hall and South Street also has 6 theaters.
Merriam Theater
Kimmel Center
Wilma Center
Susan Roberts Theater
Prince Music Theater
Academy of Music
If a person is willing to stray a mere 2 blocks south of Broad Street, you can include the elegant Forrest Theater and the Walnut Street Theater - oldest theater in the US.

I was just posting the link from Center City District that claims 175,000 people in Center City and 72% of those with college degrees.
I don't even see how your statement was being "boosterific". The Greater Center City area can usually include places like University City or areas north of Girard Avenue depending on what boundaries are used. I guess BajanYankee was going by strict census measures or the CBD of Philly. It sort of similar to how the Chicago Loop is viewed as being all of downtown Chicago.
