Hard to describe what Noir is. But think of Casablanca which was a Noir classic. Think of dick tracey, dectectives, violence, murder, and mayhem? And you kind of have Noir. In most Noir movies in the 40s and 50s, the setting was generally LA and NY. But I wanted to know which city has a more Noir feel to it. Which city feels more like a gritty and hard edged?

The pic in this song would perfectly visualize Noir

I went for Philadelphia, but Chicago is a close second!

St. Louis should be on this list instead of Kansas City, by the way

SF in The Maltese Falcon had a very noir look about it.

I suppose any city can be made to look that way by a competent director.

I agree, St. Louis is a pretty dark city as well. Though I think Kansas City has a better night time skyline, and still has a more classic look to it.

By the way, why do you choose Philly over Chicago? Just curious, since I just moved to Philly

Being that we litterally had a videogame titled LA Noir and most of this buildings in that game are still up...I'm going to say LA. Think of any Noir Movie....even if the setting was in another city, it was most likely filmed in Downtown Los Angeles. Kind of like how Mad Men is set in NY, but they are really in Downtown Los Angeles.

Wow Philly is killing the poll! Kind of shocked. Philly is considered a Noir city? I'll definitely love it here then.

C'mon man, LA. The Noirish Los Angeles thread is one of most popular and longest running threads on the SkyscraperPage messageboard. There's a few thousand photos there illustrating what a noirish mistress LA is.

How'd you leave off New Orleans?

Kansas City, Atlanta?!

I'd go with Philly/NYC/NOLA.
