The Midwest is NOT a subregion of the Northeast, and not all of the Midwest is part of the Great Lakes region.

My head hurts when Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio and Indiana are not included in the Northeast. The Southeast usually has the correct states and the region has the right area.

There are countless other sources that have the Great Lakes States as part of the Northeast.

The only image that puts those Midwestern states in the Northeast is the Library of Congress image and I wouldn't put much stock into that since it also puts LA and AR in the Southwest; the rest of the images don't have any kind of designation of the collection of states being referred to.

The Midwest isn't part of the Northeast at all; it's as simple as that.
