What I find funny is how may people use Minneapolis and Minnesota interchangeably. It's shockingly common in the city.
And some even morph it into Minneanapolis.

There are actually quite a few. I've never heard of most of them though.

I did a Google search and in the U.S., could only find that nickname associated with Minneapolis-St. Paul and some small town in Maine. What are the others you found?

Lewiston and Auburn. Those small towns are the 2nd and 5th largest cities in Maine!

Lewiston and Auburn

I would say Twin Cities, the Minnesota Twins baseball team helps that a good bit. I know what the MetroPlex is I know what DFW is I am sure a lot of people do but Twin Cites is just more of a household name.

I saw your post, but he said he knew of quite a few cities with the nickname "Twin Cities." I thought maybe he knew something both of us didn't because that only seems to be a proper nickname for Minneapolis-St. Paul and the towns in Maine from what I've seen.

Growing up in South Carolina whenever the phrase Twin Cities was uttered Minneapolis/St Paul is what came to mind. The fact that there is a baseball team called the Minnesota Twins, and the fact that they beat the Braves for World Series only helped reinforce that identity. Really didn't know of the Metroplex until I joined City Data a few years ago.

And please, stop calling all of DFW "The Dallas Area".
I bet some of you guys wish it was called FWD, or Fort Worth/Dallas area. xD

I kind of see San Antonio and Austin growing together in a similar way to Dallas and Fort Worth. Might have The Junior Metroplex soon.

Your location is a testament to its popularity. I've yet to see a user list their location as, "The Metroplex".
