It's more densely populated, for that reason, there will be a little more going on around you in Chicago. Atlanta is alot more spread out so the hoods can fool you at first glance. Chicago is more of a pedestrian friendly environment while Atlanta is car friendly so getting to close by amenities would be easier in Chicago. Walking to the nearest corner store in the hood in Atlanta will probably on average take twice as long than walking though the hood in Chicago due to Atlanta's street layout.
At the end of the day, it all depends on personal preference I guess.

Exactly. South Atlanta might look like a bad neighborhood in the metro I live in now whereas South Chicago would feel like East New York.
