So me and my fiancee are looking for something completely different. We are born and raised in Texas, currently living in Austin. We have despised heat all our lives and have just put up with it because we had to. We never use the heater even on the coldest days in Texas and want to finally find a place that's actually cold to settle down in. Also we love the rain, the more the better, as it seems to energize us instead of depressing us. But we also love the snow, maybe not blizzards and being snowed in, but we would like an actual winter.
Also something a bit more democratic, Austin is great in that aspect but everything else is terrible. We don't really require nights on the town or going out all that much, but if we had great scenery that might help. We've been looking into both places and haven't settled on a city or anything in either, but I tend to like Vancouver, WA and she's more into just Colorado flat out. Help us out here guys! Oh and housing prices and taxes being factored in might help too ha ha.
Edit: Also forgot to mention I'm in the IT Field and she's in Banking/Administration

Reason: Left out info
If you love the rain, Washington is a better choice. 38.4 inches annual rain in WA vs. 15.9 in CO. Average Annual Precipitation by USA State - Current Results CO will have much more of a winter however, plus more sun year-round. Have you visited both states? CO, for example, has mountains, plains, and desert so it's topography varies throughout the state. Inland and coastal WA are also quite different.

13 inches annually where I live in WA. Even less than that in the central part of the state. Spokane has a 4-season climate and gets plenty of snow in the winter. It's much more affordable than Seattle, but with much less to do and a weaker economy.
WA has mountains, prairies, desert, rainforests, coastline, and glaciers... all within close proximity.
Yeah I'm very fond of my state (Washington) and Colorado as well. My thought is that if you don't mind the rain and clouds that the NW has in abundance, Washington is probably a better choice because we also have the ocean and islands, still have mountains, good economy, low crime, good schools, even better scenery. The one thing I like much better about Colorado is the dry sunny climate and if that's not something you desire, then Colorado has not other significant advantage that I can see.
As far as the mentality of the people, I think there's a little more arrogance in Coloradans (maybe the Texans that moved there ?) while Washington is more down to earth...at least that's my perception and I spend time in Colorado with several relatives living there.
