Let's not live in absolutes.

^^Thank you for further proving my point

I'd also like to mention that after 9/11, NYers became a lot friendlier and nicer to not only tourists, but to each other. I've seen locals being really helpful and nice to other locals. We'll always stop and help our fellow NYers if they need us

Dispelling myths, at least from my point of view... New Yorkers are some of the most straightforward, pragmatic and nicest people I've ever met. Fun to be around and talk to. Actually, the attitudes are close to those of Chicagoans.

That's a big brush I'm painting with, but I've only ever had good experiences in NYC (and with New Yorkers).

New Yorkers aren't rude at all. In fact I'd say they're more socially engaging than us Bostonians.

NY is a rude place, but that was not surprising

Many places have people that are rude so it is everywhere

From what I have seen there are some very insecure NY'ers on this thread

Nope is a stereotype. New Yorkers are telling us that they are not that stereotype. Where is that study again that states that most New Yorkers are very polite and not rude at all?

The study is not based on science and fact though. It is purely opinion. You had decent experiences and I had bad experiences

I don't see any other cities complaining that someone said that their city was rude, only NY
