Half the people in this country cant name our vice president, let alone ID a photo of a cityscape that excludes one important landmark.
A photo of a hilly San Francisco streetscape might be sufficient.

The first photo could pass for Vancouver to the unattentive eye (which the vast majority of the world has).

How? SF has more distinctive architecture and recognizable housing. I'm not even sure what the dominant housing style of Chicago is called. Also SF is famous for it's hills. People who keep saying outside the GGB Chicago is more recognizable but they're not actually listing what exactly is more recognizable about the city.

Ok, then how is Chicago any different than that regard?

If that's your point, then you kind of have no point.

"Paris isn't really more recognizable than other cities if you take away the landmarks and famous places". Ok, I guess?

SF is more distinctive looking than Chicago, BTW, not that matters. The fact is that GG Bridge is much more globally iconic than anything in Chicago.

Vancouver. I don't think those cities look very similar. That are is mostly rather new large buildings unlike my San Francisco photo.

He's just arguing for argument's sake. I don't even particularly like SF, yet everyone knows Alcatraz.

You sound crazy,,,Chicago is a BASIC American city and doesn't have really anything distinctive about it other than terrible weather. Even a Martian would recognize San Francisco.... so I say SF no contest (GGBridge, Victorian urban houses compacted on rolling hills, Alcatraz, Mountain backdrop, Bay bridge, coastline, Transamerica pyramid, Cable cars)

It's not any different. Chicago could also be easily mistaken for Manhattan just by looking at its skyline, especially for people in other countries.
