Hmm. I thought Portland was Portland OR, but it could be Portland, ME.

But Minnesota and Iowa seem like Midwestern states.

Des Moines is both farther north and farther east than Lebanon Kansas.

Well, if we're talking about the USA, then my point still stands. The established definition of Northeastern in the USA does not include Des Moines, IA. The established definition isn't based on four quadrants.
