The DC restaurants aren't that surprising since those are the Go-To spots for summer associate lunches, recruiting lunches, etc. Most people eating lunch at those restaurants are paying with corporate cards.

Since when does quantity have to do with culinary quality?

Mickey D's baby, tens of billions $erved!

A lot of those restaurants on the list are the type of places that you see advertised in inflight magazines. There's always a sponsored list of "top restaurants" that features high-priced steakhouses and Italian for the expense account crowd...

Mostly touristy joints--some of those places are good, some are mediocre places with a good location. Like for example they have Portland City Grill at #54--which is decent food and a nice bar, but the novelty of it is that it's located on the 30th floor of the tallest building in Portland and caters to a business or tourist crowd(and big banquets). Also, what's considered an "independent restaurant"? They've got several Emeril Lagasse joints on there...

Places like Joe's Stone Crab and the Grand Central Oyster Bar are fun for a tourist though--and Sparks Steakhouse is a must see if you want to see where Paul Castellano got whacked...

Well the OP says nothing of quality... people just can"t understand what this basic information is... which as I said is pretty depressing as there are so many threads like this one (people arguing about something without even comprehending what it says...)

Seattle: 2
Atlanta: 2
Miami Beach: 2
Boston: 1
La Jolla: 1
Bellevue: 1
Portland: 1
Orlando: 1
Pacific Palisades (Los Angeles): 1

Poor Los Angeles. Just a single restaurant in LA (Pacific Palisades) made the list. What's up with that? Even Chicago beat out LA handily.
Your counting is off. I counted 10 in the Chicago area and 2 in Los Angeles, 1 in Pacific Palisades and 1 in Beverly Hills. I wonder how many other miscounts are in this?

He's counting city proper only, I think. There would be more in most of these cities if you counted metro area. I see three missing for the NYC area, for example.

Bellevue and La Jolla are not in Seattle and San Diego proper, so I am thinking that the city proper theory is out the window.

I think La Jolla is technically San Diego proper.
