I'm weird, the candies are care-uh-mels, but I like car-mel apples and car-mel popcorn.
Maybe from having lived in a ton of places and trying to adapt to local speech patterns.

Because that's by far the most common pronounciation of it I grew up hearing...

Unless you're thinking "a" instead of "uh", because that's what I mean.

I say Car-mel. I'm from California.

Care-uh-mel doesn't sound too unnatural, though in general nothing's worse than hearing people pedantically emphasize syllables that ought not be emphasized:

"After I finish with the vac-u-um, let's go down to the rest-uh-ront and get a choc-o-late milkshake."

Looks like some people don't get that.

"Car-mel" is really the same thing we do with words like "Worcestershire" and "interest". To say it's "incorrect" because someone doesn't enunciate all the syllables is quite silly.
