I think most of the exceptions are rural ones. Walterboro, for example. Or smaller towns like Florence. Unless things have changed since I was last there...
I mean areas actually along the coast. In SC, that would be areas like Georgetown and Edisto Beach that aren't as transplant-saturated but it's probably only a matter of time before those areas are "discovered" too.

In my head I was considering Florence and Walterboro relatively close enough to the coast to be counted as such.. they are all right on 95, but in reality I guess they're not (coastal).
Darien, Georgia is also still a laid back coastal town without many transplants.
Plenty of towns along the NC coast that aren't quite as transplant/retiree saturated, too. The SC coast takes the cake for being the most developed and transplant/retiree saturated, excluding Florida. We really don't have anything like the Grand Strand up here in NC.

YES...this is the exact reason people love the NC coast! I hope it never gets ruined with rampant, out of control development like Myrtle Beach.
