Are there any neighborhoods in these other cities with: (a) a large Black professional concentration and (b) a walkscore above 75?
Doubtful. In Atlanta, I think you'll see a few more Black professionals that are homeowners out in the 'burbs although more are choosing the city proper these days even though many may be near or on the fringes (e.g., Camp Creek, Cascade, etc.).
Just as many Houston natives are in Atlanta. People want to move to Atlanta. People have to move to Houston. Plus Atlanta offers them way more stuff to do. I never heard anyone here say "let's fly to Houston for the weekend?"
Just because people move there during our recession doesn't mean they like Houston. They just trying to survive.
Stop acting like people are moving there because it's Houston. No they are moving there because of jobs. If those same jobs where in a other city they would have moved to that city

But there's a good chance that those folks aren't native to Georgia as Atlanta is a significantly transient city; tons of people move there, stay a few years, then move elsewhere.

I also might add that Houston is starting to finally attract more blacks, especially the younger ones. With the SWAC Championship football and basketball games, Drake's Houston Appreciation Weekend, etc., more blacks are starting to see Houston as a great place for blacks.
Maybe so. I'm not disagreeing that Houston is a decent destination for black professionals and blacks in general.
As a black professional, I view Houston (and certainly Dallas) as good cities to start a career, become a homeowner and still have expendable income. Same for Atlanta, but add the plethora of other amenities as mentioned in afdinatl's post 135. There are Atlanta's other intangables to the Texas cities; the more attractive topography, the arguably better climate, the burgeoning film & music industries. Not discounting Houston's music legacy (before someone goes off on that tangent, lol).
I don't like the term "Black Mecca". If that type of place exists, it would be Atlanta along with D.C. Houston will not dethrone either anytime soon.
Afdinatl's posts don't shed much light on this issue, as far as I'm concerned. Speaking as someone who is from Southeast Texas and has lived in Atlanta, Blacks in both cities are leading the exact same lives relative to their class and income, for the most part. Anyone telling you otherwise simly isn't familiar with one or both cities.
I suppose Atlanta has a serious advantage if your entire existence revolves around your Blackness. Most Houstonians are far too used to diversity to entertain such ideals.

Yes! I agree. Most blacks here will bring up how diverse Houston is, while saying it's a great place for blacks. IMO, Houston is the best of both worlds: black world and diverse world.
