Miami the city itself is poor as crap but Miami Beach, Palm Beach country and the Miami metro areas they have a lot of millionaires and billionaires, it helps to have no state income tax... almost every pro athlete in the world has a house in Florida.

Agreed. South Florida is basically the closest beach you can get to (year round) from the East Coast and a convenient locale for corrupt third world oligarch to have a pad - nothing important has ever been made, discovered, fabricated or invented there, unless you consider beds in a nightclub a cultural milestone. It rivals Dubai in terms of having an odd, two-tier society with a small sliver of idle super-wealthy and the hordes of horribly under-educated service industry workers who somehow think they are part of that. Kind of entertaining to watch.
The entire economy of the Miami metro area is barely half of Houston, Texas (!) and over a TRILLION dollars less than NYC metro. In facile terms, think of it as one of those tacky casino "luxury shopping pavilions" in Las Vegas - its a place where ultra wealthy spend money to buy things. But if it makes you feel good about your city or vocational choices, I'm all for it............

I will never understand it. Miami boosters love to talk about these people moving down there, yet the city is the same dirt poor city it was a decade ago. Despite no state income tax, etc. which you would think would make it a desirable place for corporate expansion which would then bring educated people to live yet no.. seems like poverty from expensive cities and 70 year old retirees are running there in droves though.

We're America's Monaco. Where the rich come to see and be seen, and a bunch of tourists come, try to live our lifestyle and come out broke and mad like you. We don't have a middle class, we're not for everyone. Honestly if there was good jobs here, we'd have types like you, and that's not what we need. Average boring people like you who work 9-5, stay in Dallas

The middle class can't really live here because jobs here are close to nonexistent. Tech jobs here pay about half what they do in San Francisco, if not even less. We're the worst market in the USA for paying jobs. But what's funny is people from NYC, California, and other places fight to live here despite that. I wouldn't live here if I didn't have a remote job. But since I can live wherever I want, I choose to live in Miami.
Face it, Miami is the choice of people who don't need to be tied down due to their job. Those other cities (except Atlanta for black people) are the choice of people who need a job and to be there physically to do it.
They keep more wealth with no state income tax too. It is Miami Beach only the wealthy can live on, not Mimi city with plenty of poor to middle class. Downtown Miami city surely has some spill-over of wealthy in Condos and suburban locations to all along the Florida coastline.
Also most on Miami Beach have second homes there??? Not primary homes of the rich. Why other cities gain credit as permanent primary residence.

Because there is no money to be made here, just spend. Miami is where the rich go and blow the money they made somewhere else. It's what we are, but enough do it from around the world to propel us to the 6th spot.
Cities with a more typical model (make some money, spend it) do much worse unless they are, well NYC. After all a CEO of some tech company in the Bay Area cannot have a primary residence here, but he can have a secondary one.
