Since this includes CSA, that bump up is due to Flint. Flint added exactly 5,000 jobs over 2014 and by December the unemployment rate fell to 5.7 (albeit with a shrinkage in labor force). The last time Flint added at least 5,000 was in 1995.

Either way, Detroit's MSA has been pumping out around 40K jobs per year since the end of the recession, so from where I'm sitting 2014 didn't really seem any more spectacular than any other year. Lots of retail growth though.

Detroit is experiencing a correction from 2004-2010, when it experienced an abnormal down cycle. Probably a couple more years until it levels off.
