Why?Because you are closer to the source.If it cost less to transport items then that cost will vary depending on how far that item has to go,
When you by a car you pay a destination fee.That car will cost more if it has to go further.

I'm definitely on the side of COL is becoming less of a factor (for reasons I already stated), but I recently bought 2 pairs of jeans (same style different colors) from the same store but at different locations in the Bay Area (not even different states or anything). First I tried to get them online but they were sold out (but it showed the price). So I went to Westfield's in DT SF and bought a pair (wasn't too surprised that it cost me more in SF than on the internet). Then a few days later I was at my sister's in San Carlos and went to Hillsdale Shopping Center in San Mateo to get another pair. It was cheaper there than in SF but more expensive than the internet.
