I'd live in these states, some reluctantly:

1. Vermont 94.0%
2. Maine 93.9%
3.
4. New Hampshire 91.4%
5. Iowa 87.5%
6. North Dakota 87.4%
7. Montana 87.0%
8.
9. Montana 84.7%
10. South Dakota 83.4%

17.
18. Utah 79.5%
19. Pennsylvania 78.2%
20. Oregon 77.3%
21. Kansas 77.1%
22. Michigan 75.9%
23.
24.
25.
26.
27. Washington 70.9%
28.
29. Colorado 69.1%
30.
31.
32.
33.
34.
35.
36. Illinois 62.7%
37. Alaska 62.5%

47.
48. New Mexico 39.3%

If it looks horribly racist, well, it has nothing to do with that. I don't like the crowded east coast or hot and humid places.

Yeah but when the population is tiny it's easy to have a large growth percentage. Maine's black population growth is driven by South Sudanese refugee placement.

I guess if you're actually looking to live in a very white-white environment, you're going to have to find another planet because most people on God's earth are certainly "non-white peoples" .......time to build that rocket ship I guess, but problem is you might find "other colors" and species as well LOL

I am in PA also, but live outside of Philly, so there is more diversity here. I actually thought PA would have a lower white percentage due to Philly, and Pittsburgh. It is interesting how few minorities live in the outer burbs, and more rural areas of PA. It seems the minority population is strictly inner city urban, or very close in burbs for the most part.

I don't think the OP intended to start racial controversy. I think demographics are interesting as it does help shape communities.

There has been a lot of talk about how "white" states like ME, VT, and NH are. Nobody is trying to keep minorities out of these states. The fact is, minorities DON"T WANT TO LIVE THEIR. A lot of racial segregation in this country is by CHOICE of the minorities, not because anyone is trying to keep them out, or has prejudices against them.

I think the big thing is that many folks feel uncomfortable moving somewhere where they will stand out so it is a chicken vs egg thing.

Part of it is practical: if you are an observant Muslim would you want to live somewhere where you can't find ḥalāl food? Would you want to be a black guy living somewhere you can't find a Barber that knows how to cut your hair?

Boise, where I grew up has a small but growing Bosnian community that started with refugees. Over time, folks who were settled there were joined by friends and family because word of mouth.

The same thing happened 100 years ago with Basque immigrants. It might seem random that Idaho has the largest Basque population in the states, but it makes sense because people who came over to work invited friends and family to join them, they hit a critical mass and kept growing.

The same thing is happening right now with the Hispanic community in Idaho, it hit that critical mass a while ago an is rapidly growing.

That said, I agree with your point that being a "White" state isn't some indication that these places are more racist or a bad place for minorities to live.

I mostly agree with this. In my area the Indian community has grown pretty large due to the amount if tech, finance, pharma, etc in the area. I believe many are on H1 Visas, but I am sure some are trying to become citizens also. Entire subdivisions are now Indian as they want to be with people like them. It is word of mouth that they cluster, as I have spoken to some, and asked them how they chose this community. It's always a friend, or relative that tells them.

Sorry to tell you but what your trying to do and your poll is so off and doesn't really make a lot of sense. Like the previous posters have stated, what's up with the race thing... Also the state thing make no sense and to get a better picture you would have to go off of Metro Areas or Cities being that's where most of the Minorities and Diversity lie. You can go to rural parts of any state and get a totally different picture but to Cities like Louisville in Kentucky or Philly in PA. and get a totally different picture than the rest of the state.

As someone who chose to move to a heavily-white area (from a heavily-diverse area), I found a weirdness and backwards-ness to the new area. Lots of cold narrow-mindedness, and a shallow view of humanity. People are so alike, that they start critiquing and analyzing others on the most petty and trivial of differences. It was the greatest lesson I could receive. I can't wait to move back to my roots, and lots of culture and richness.

Diversity is an under-appreciated strength and asset in this country. The Founding Fathers recognized that, and you can see signs of that in earlier key documents, and monuments such as the Statue of Liberty. America would not be America if were not for the vast number of immigrants and peoples of all colors who have contributed in various ways (science, technology, food, music, literature, architecture, etc.) The richer the culture and diversity, the richer are our minds and human skills. Too bad that so many these days want to ignore all of that, and have us divided and segregated, looking coldly and suspiciously at everyone different from us. That's not America, and that's not humanity.

^^^ Good for you...Welcome back to reality, Thoreau424. Having moved from a nearly all white town to a place of great diversity, in almost everything, was one of the best moves in my life.
