i'm conflicted as to where i want to move when i have the dollars and resources. i currently reside in Washington state and have lived here for a very long time. i really need a change and currently am split between phoenix and somewhere in new york to move. not new york city cause its expensive and completely chockablock. Not sure where in ny i want to move i don't know what town is best to move to in that area, i heard buffalo is bad. i know it snows a lot in the winter which i wouldn't mind having for once since it never snows over here. but i'm just wondering how it compares to phoenix-metro when it comes to job market, apartment expenses, which is easier to move to when you're going alone with not a whole lot of money. i personally feel like it would be easier to move to arizona, i've been there and i might be able to transfer to the phoenix branch of the company i work for (just a part-time job), i have family down there etc. i don't plan on moving till i have the cash and am well prepared so i would like some feedback and insight on which might be more suitable for a 21 year old traveling lone.

Phoenix all the way. If you had said NYC then maybe I'd consider that over Phoenix, possibly. But your post specifically said not NYC, but rather other places in NY like Buffalo. Ugh! So I'd choose Phoenix because it's still in the West, you got family there, and the climate will be a nice 180 degree change compared to Seattle.

2 totally different areas. Phoenix 6 million ,115 degree weather in summer, spread out city or slower paced city in New York. Lots of snow in New York .Niagara Falls is beautiful. Why not make a trip out to New York and check out different cities?

Phoenix.

Wouldnt be enough going on for me in NY STATE.
Cold, lackluster economy, and nothing going on.
You can either freeze or fry.
Lol

And especially working, Id prefer Phoenix. Atleast its more to do in Phoenix after a hard days work. Arizona imo is better to look at than NY STate everyday. And more waaay more events pass through Phoenix. L.A., Vegas, Utah for skiing etc, short flight.
For sports youve got: The Suns(actually might be in the playoffs this year), Coyotes(lol), Cardinals(doing goos lately, if it wasnt for Cam Superman Newtown, wouldve been in the playoffs), and Diamondbacks(lol)
Also UA Basketball. Theyre in the ELite 8 right now, need I say more?
And ASU AND UA football just caught a spark last year.
AZ is GREAT for sports right now.

NY sports are gaaaaaarbage right now, knicks are so bad even Europe didnt care about them, and ironically Syracuse, NY STATEs basketball team did so bad their coach came out and suspended them from the tourney for some controversy drama himself.

It's more crime in Phoenix though, and get ready to deal and hear about illegal immigration drama taking place right in your backyard.
Edit: Oh look what I just found

Oh, fun fact, a old man died in his apartment it got so hot last summer, his AC shut down from the heat and he died in his sleep.
And they were cooking cookies on the cement, like literally, fully baked cookies. Eggs too, lol

Syracuse self imposed a Basketball post season ban for a year and the coach didn't impose it.

The University of Arizona is in Tucson, not Phoenix. Phoenix sports team are OK and they don't really get the same level of support that major college/professional teams in NYS outside of NYC get.

Employment will depend on what the OP is looking for.

Also, the OP wouldn't have to leave NY to ski, gamble, etc.

OP might want to check out Tempe, since your 21 and would really want to be around people your age I'll assume.

Tempe is a college town and less crime than Phoenix.

I'd have to say Phoenix as well. Upper state NY is nice in the summer, but winters get a bit hairy! Of course, living in NY state puts you closer to more major metros like Philly, Boston, NYC,and DC. If you expand your options I say give the east coast a try. You are still young so explore.

You don't have to leave Arizona to ski or gamble either. Indian reservations are allowed to have gambling, and there's skiing near Tucson and Flagstaff, as well as a few other places.
