San Francisco has always been my favorite city to photograph. The colors, the architecture, the iconic landmarks, the hills, the bay, the ocean, the vistas, the people and critical mass on the streets, Chinatown, cable cars, the fog rolling in, what's not to love about this city when viewed through the lens? I'd call it Americas most photogenic city.

The Flickr data makes sense. It's also interesting how Austin beats out Houston/Dallas, likely because of its younger population (who use Flickr) and because Austin seems to come across as the more appealing Texas city to visit.

I'm surprised that Austin beat out other Texas cities like San Antonio and Houston. these two cities attract more than 30 million annual visitors and are both in the top 10 most visited cities in the U.S. They also attract the most international visitors, more so than Austin or Dallas. As for San Antonio it is the top leisure/ tourist destination in Texas. The median age of Austin is roughly the same as the other three Texas cities not much of a difference. I don't think age is a major contributing factor.

It must be because Austin is a photogenic city and many of its residents are infatuated with the place, the most pride, and probably what gives Austin the edge over the other Texas cities. In my opinion San Antonio is the most photogenic, most historic landmarks, hill country, Riverwalk, the most colorful and unique city in the state. Austin would come in a close second for uniqueness. As far as skylines, I would think Houston's and Dallas' skyline would be most photographed.
