Atlanta is definitely more corporate than DC. DC is more public sector while Atlanta is more private sector. That's probably what they meant. D.C. is too reliant on the government and if the government isn't rapidly expanding, it's population growth isn't that impressive(kind of like now). Miami has been slowing down, although it has pretty good job growth and will probably begin increasing it's population growth.

I think it will be between Atlanta and Miami.

Government jobs just puts things in public versus private sector, but the actual industries themselves can be really diverse. Moreover, the presence of public agencies also means a lot of private sector co-locating close by which is why you have large Fortune 500 headquarters in the DC region.

Where is Texas in whatever source you are getting this from?

Regional and State Employment and Unemployment Summary - From the Bureau of Labor Statistics themselves.

Quote:
In February 2015, nonfarm payroll employment increased in 36 states and
the District of Columbia, decreased in 13 states, and was unchanged in Wyoming.
The largest over-the-month increases in employment occurred in California
(+29,400), Georgia (+25,400), and New York (+20,200).
They only showed the top 3. With Houston's oil bust doing on, it seems Texas has kind of lost a bit of footing as far as job growth is concerned in the last 2 or 3 months.

In looking though a lot of the big boys in DC are really huge defense contractors or quasi gov't mortgage overseers

Atlanta is big in logistics DC big in Govt - both have growing healthcare segments There has been a move for hotel cos to locate in DC

this study would suggest Atlanta is the more diverse economy and DC one of the least diverse among large cities in the US

DC is a very important city economically. What Is the World's Most Economically Powerful City? DC was rated in the top 15 of the world's most economically powerful cities. Atlanta doesn't even make the list. Important to note that it says economically important, not politically important, so the list is taking into account economic output. Government jobs provide jobs, but they don't really provide economic output
