For me, I would rather live in Portland than Minneapolis--Portland just feels incredibly different than Minneapolis, in my experience. But the hipsters can make both insufferable, so there's at least one similarity

Minneapolis isn't any worse than Chicago in terms of hipsters....in fact Chicago may be worse, as the more transient city of the two. Do you feel suffocated by hipsters?
Pound-for-pound I think Portland is one of the better cities in the country. It's quite a pleasant surprise because it offers way more than anyone would have thought possible before visiting. The area around it is quite beautiful, lots of nice trails around there and of course plenty to do outdoors.
80 miles from Downtown Portland is one of the most scenic stretches of coastline found anywhere in North America.

It was just a joke, but in my experience there's definitely a higher concentration of hipsters in both Portland and Mpls. I'm sure Chicago has way more hipsters than either, but then it's got a much larger population overall, so there's a dilution effect unless you are in particular areas of the city. In that case, it's waxed mustaches, mason jars, suspenders, and restaurants with ampersands in the names as far as the eye can see...

I noticed more hipsters in Minneapolis actually, but it only feels like part of the various groups while in Portland it feels like the city is more of this type of city. If that makes any sense.
@Dawn I did most of that stuff you're talking about when I went to visit. You can basically do all that same sort of stuff in Portland (albeit with slightly different influences). They have more dives. It's generally cheaper (a bar downtown has $1.75 beers and another near Burnside has $2 tall boys) too.

In general no. Although going to a strip club in Portland is part of the culture and there's a large variety of things to do at them. You've got karaoke, trivia nights, vegan eats, places that are more like circus performers/athletic shows, places that are more like hanging out at a friend's place, and a lot of them play better music than many of the bars/clubs.
Going to a Portland strip club is an event. Going to one in another city is single minded in its attempt to arouse.

Actually for this match up I'd say Seattle and Minneapolis are more closely related than Seattle and Portland. Kind of like a long lost twin raised by a different set parents.

Dude-- you were the one who made the random and wrong claim the Cincinnati was more diverse than Minneapolis in terms of white ansestory. Remember? So, yeah, as far as your argument (which my data proves wrong), ansestories matter.

Aside from the weather (even that is debatable) how is Portland easier living than Minneapolis? It's far more expensive and has a much worse economy.
From a people perspective -- definitely MSP. Also MSP is very bike friendly and has a strong local economy.
But the winters there are brutal. I'll take a cold rain over the tundra.
