Hmm. Thought Atlanta would be growing a little faster than that, but I should keep in mind that these are just Census estimates (and the Census Bureau doesn't have a perfect track record with Atlanta population estimates, just look at the 2009 estimate v. the 2010 census).
Wow, Boston, DC and Memphis are all within 3,000 of each other. At ~656,000, honestly Boston and DC might be a bit overinflated, remember Atlanta 2009 vs Census 2010?
Also Detriot is only down about 5k but again, the Census estimated where very kind to Shrinking cities like Chicago, Cleveland and Detroit last time.

I do not know about the other cities, but Detroit, I believe, did not lose as many people last census, as recorded. They actually counted 900,000 people in Detroit in 2000 and counted 713,000 in 2010, for a loss of 187,000 people. However, the 2000 count was adjusted upward, as a result of a suit filed by cities for minority under count. Hence, the 2000 count got bumped up to 954,000 and therefore the 2010 loss got recorded as a 250,000 loss for the decade.
Also, all mayors prior to Dave Bing, starting with Coleman A Young, rallied to citizens of the city and marketed an effort to get as many people counted as possible, because funds from the state and feds were tied to a certain population size. Dave Bing to not rally the city to be counted.....and with the high squatter rate in Detroit, who do not want to be noted unless they were confident of not being thrown out, means many people were not counted.
I think Detroit population loss from 2000 to 2010 was more like 160,000 and not like 250,000. I believe if a serious effort is made to get everyone counted in 2020....Detroit will have over 700,000 people and if there is an adjustment for minority under count again, as was the case in 2000, then the population could even show an increase from the 2010 count.
