I love NOLA, and posted as much earlier on, with one qualifier - in July, NOLA is brutally hot and humid, while Chicago near the Lake is generally pleasant. It's an important distinction, obviously. He's not going there to work, he's going there to hang out outside and walk to other places and so on. Much of the year I'd tip towards NOLA, just not during the summer months.
I've spent weeks in NOLA during the summer - every month but July, strangely. And it's brutal. Even in May, it can be worse than it ever gets in Chicago. And obviously, I'm quite familiar with Chicago weather, as it's the same as Milwaukee weather. There's a huge difference during summer.
Exactly what I said too. Nola for a birthday vacation any other time of year. I was there in March during a slight heatwave and it was already borderline oppressive heat and humidity. And that was March. It was as bad in Nola in March as it is in Chicago in June/July.
Thanks for all the input City Data, In the End we went with Chicago, Hotel already Booked and will be headed for the Chi Early Early am Tomorrow (Friday) Morning. Chicago Here we Come Whhhhhhhew....So Excited!!!
Have fun! You can't really lose with either city, two of the best party destinations in the country, but at least you won't be sweatin' as much in Chicago.

You made the right choice. Chicago is supposed to be in the 70's and low 80's for the next week, compared with NOLA having a high of over 90 degrees every day for the next 8 days. So much for that 7 degree difference in weather SDPMiami.
Wow Chicago has a beautiful Summer, feels like spring up here, No humidity no sweating Summer feels like Spring up here
Its gets super humid in Chicago at times, but its never for very long. It cools down with much drier air and cool temps that are delicious. New Orleans doesnt get that luxury, unfortunately.
Enjoy your stay in Chicago, its an amazing city. Do take the architectural tour on the boats, or the SeaDog high-speed boats on Lake Michigan, those are fun, too.
If you really don't like to go on a weekend bender Chicago is a way better overall city than New Orleans yet more expensive as well. New Orleans is a great party town, its a really great eating drinking town but you run out things to do after a few days, Chicago has a lot of sites to see for weeks. Chicago, NYC and SF are my fav cities to visit in the US by far.
Yeah, I'm at the Taste of Chicago now (Grant Park) , So many people, People look like ants here,....I see sail boats on Lake Michigan lol Chicago has everything, hopefully we can make it to Sears Tower skydeck next
