I don't get the SC numbers. It doesn't make sense in the larger context.
Yes, SC is growing, and parts are booming, but the same things are happening in adjacent states like Georgia and North Carolina, and those are richer states, with far more immigrants and multinationals, yet they have far lower % passports.

Yes, SC is growing, and parts are booming, but the same things are happening in adjacent states like Georgia and North Carolina, and those are richer states, with far more immigrants and multinationals, yet they have far lower % passports.
They are also over twice as populous with larger areas that aren't experiencing the growth that Atlanta, Charlotte, and Raleigh are. Again, I'm pretty sure that it's the huge boom in retirees that's driving SC's numbers, along with an increasing number of multinational companies.
Why in gods name does everyone need a passport? We have large percentages of our population who will never leave their state let alone the country. Waste of money, especially considering how expensive they are

Some people need to travel out of the country? Not everyone needs a passport, but I do agree that it shouldn't cost this much to get one.

It probably has more to do with the fact that it's a border state, and a state with a huge Mexican population, with family in Mexico. Just sayin.
I think it's a bit troubling and worrisome that you need an arbitrary ID to leave the country. If this isn't a human rights violation than nothing is
You don't need an "arbitrary ID to leave the country". You can walk right over from El Paso To Juarez, no passport needed. Many countries don't care.
You will need a passport to enter the U.S., however. Are you seriously asking why the U.S. would have the right to check who is entering their country?
I kinda like the idea of an open border between Canada and the US, like in most of western Europe. Not going to happen with the security mindset of the US, but one could hope.
