Raleigh/Durham is four hours south of DC and six hours from Atlanta. Although the Triangle metro isn't on the same level as these two metros, which metro would you say is more similar? Going by cultural similarities, demographics, job market, historical similarities, etc.

This is a good question as the Triangle shares similarities with both. I'm tempted to say Atlanta as both the Triangle and Atlanta are more culturally Southern than DC/NoVA and right now, they have similar relationships with their state legislatures.

If the two had a teenage child, it would be The Triangle.

Well none of those are actually like DC, so i guess the question should just say NOVA (by itself) or Atlanta.

Four hours? Hmmm. Try five and a half. DC to Raleigh is 277 miles.

That's four hours without traffic driving an average of 70 MPH. You must be driving Miss Daisy if it takes you 5½ hours to drive that distance.

My typical drives from DC to NC and points along I-85 South go a such (no traffic):

Durham area- 4 hours

Greensboro- 5 hours

Charlotte- 6 hours

Atlanta- 9 hours.

These have all been timed on multiple trips and pretty much are a clear cut average the way I drive.

Nope, you can make it to DC in 4 hours without breaking the sound barrier. I can make it to DC from Charlotte in about 6. Have done it many times.

Yeah I've made the 6 hour trip from Charlotte to DC a few times when I lived in Charlotte myself.
