Personally I prefer the beaches in San Diego County to South Orange County the most. I don't really get why Coronado always makes on of those "bests" list though, it's nothing special and many other San Diego beaches are much more scenic with warmer and clearer water.

Mission Beach is a pretty good entertainment oriented beach area in SD with amusement rides and stuff. The community is on a narrow peninsula, it's only about 2-4 city blocks wide and the front of the homes face pedestrian walkways rather than streets. Very nice and quaint imo.

Next to MB is Pacific Beach, I lived there for 5 years, and it's more of a party beach area with lots of nightlife.

My favorite beach in Windansea in La Jolla. Not really a touristy beach as it's not that well known and doesn't have any amenities next to it. Probably has the whitest sand and clearest water I've seen in SoCal.

SD definitely has the best beaches on the west coast. Bluer water, less crowded, warmer air and sea temperatures (except during some heatwaves when the urban heat island of LA makes our beaches hotter). But I'd take the warmer air and sea temperatures of the east coast summers over our beaches. They're quite uncomfortable to be at many days in summer because it's not warm enough.

I loved La Jolla, such a beautiful beach-great pics. PB and MB also seemed pretty cool and I guess Coronado is so well known because of the hotel.
