The city where everyone's just sort of doing their own thing and going about their own business -- dancing to their own drum, so to speak. I've limited the poll to the top 11 metros for the sake of brevity, but I'm well aware that there are lots of smaller towns and metros that also fit the bill, probably even better than most of these massive cities do, so feel free to bring them up in the thread.
I definitely think LA and San Francisco fit that bill. Nobody in LA or SF (or much of California) cares about what others think. I certainly think that these cities fit the bill of people also "going about their own business" as well. What is private here stays private!
I think this has a lot to do with how Catholic or Protestant the city is. I believe Protestants tend to be more individualistic than Catholics. The Northeast and Midwest tend to have the highest Catholic percentage. The South tends to have the highest Protestant percentage. And the West tends to have the highest unaffiliated percentage.

I don't see how you would quantify that, but I don't think it would be true anyway. I think "religiously unaffiliated" people are more individualistic than Catholics or Protestants and from the data it appears that the more Catholic a city is the more it is also "religiously unaffiliated".
*In every metro area where Catholicism takes number one, religiously unaffiliated takes number two.*
*Catholics also love cities; Catholicism is among the top three religious groups for nearly every metro area—only Nashville, Charlotte, Indianapolis, Kansas City, and Atlanta don’t have Catholics among the top three.*
