Because these things tend to divert into a "well the city sucks but the metro is nice" or vice versa, please consider the following in totality - the city and metro together:
Memphis, TN
Charlotte, NC
Atlanta, GA
New Orleans, LA
Birmingham, AL
Jackson, MS
Little Rock, AR
Nashville, TN
Columbia, SC
Raleigh, NC
Rank them based on your general perception /experience. Which are good, which are not good. Which are fun, which are boring. Which are entrenched, which are progressive. Just your overall feelings regarding these areas.
No Florida cities? Florida is part of the "Southeastern" region.
Went with sure things. The FL is/isn't a Southeastern state debate could've derailed my thread. My personal feelings are that the Panhandle to Jacksonville can be considered part of the SE, but you can imagine the dissent that would've kicked up so I declined to include FL. If I had put one on there, it would have been limited to J'ville.

Who would debate whether Florida is in the Southeastern US? That's a completely geographic designation.

Well you've already started knocking on the door of that debate, as did the poster I responded to. Plainly, the state of Florida lies in the Southeastern geographic region of the country. Culturally? Those lines are subject to many interpretations. The thread was intended to poll on cities that exist squarely within the cultural Southeast.

May we have your rankings please?
There is no "cultural Southeast." There's a cultural South with subregions that include Appalachia, the Deep South, the Gulf Coast, etc. The Southeast is purely a geographic designation.
But that said, I understand that it was more or less a random selection of cities and wasn't intended to be exhaustive.
