Good article, downtown Birmingham's future looks to be bright. It's a pity they don't have more highrises planned, the city has a decent skyline for its size, I'd like to see it grow.
With as many Birmingham boosters and fans that have been posting on this thread, I wonder where all the Memphis boosters are? Memphis is winning the polls in number of votes, curious.

Lol, I was thinking the same thing lol. People voting for Memphis then not backing up their vote..smh.
CSA to CSA, they are both 1.3M with Memphis slightly ahead.
Memphis may have a bigger airport, but it isn't nicer. The Birmingham airport was recently renovated, remodeled and upgraded into a very nice, sleek, and attractive welcome mat for the city and state.
Birmingham has the edge in upscale shopping, scenery and nice suburbs.
I would choose Memphis for a visit, Birmingham for a place to live.
IMO Memphis is more interesting. It has a rich musical heritage, great bbq, a fun entertainment district, and pro sports.
That being said, Birmingham seems to be moving in a positive direction. Both have serious crime problems. I feel like it is slightly worse in Memphis, but am not sure. Birmingham also has a better university (UAB). And the mountains are nice. Seems better for outdoor recreation.
Birmingham looks way Too big to be so Boring, the Crime issue is a Totally different story all together.
I don't think people have much room to call it boring in 2015. Granted, that's difficult to discern just by an at-a-glance passing on the interstate, we don't have a well-reputed entertainment district, and our nightlife isn't being marketed to outsiders. However, if you haven't been to Birmingham in the past 3-4 years, I guarantee you would be completely shocked by what you'd see today. Downtown is legitimately thriving on the weekends. There's an entire new crop of bars that have popped up in the CBD and are slammed from Thursday-Sunday. And that's independent from the heightened activity you'll find in present day Five Points, Parkside, Avondale, and Lakeview. People have their hard-lined thoughts on Bham, what it was, and what it is today, but unless you've kept a close eye on us, the past 5 years have been remarkable. There's an energy about the place now and local pride is acutely palpable.

I spent a month there for work not long ago, and I have to agree.
I wasn't really sure what to expect, but I grew to like the place and the people a lot. I was very pleasantly surprised, and never felt unsafe anywhere. The gorgeous geography is an added bonus.

Thats true , Birmingham I think will get a new high rise. The metro is 1.14 million , Bham is a lot Bigger then people suspect.
