I know they are very different but I can't decide which would be better for me. So I'll tell you a little about myself. I'm a 32 year old single black female from Richmond, VA. It will be some time before I move so I'm still in the infancy of my planning stage. I'm going to wait to have a nice amount of money saved and for my child to reach 18. I'm in the spa industry and plan to stay within that industry during my move. I know Texas would be easier money wise but I'm thinking about where I'd be happier. I believe Hawaii is safer. I've stayed in San Antonio for a number of months before so I have an idea of Texas weather and living in general. I know Texas has the same pest problems as Virginia ( just larger in size). While I would need to adjust to having geckos running around in HI. I also like that Hawaii is one of the healthier states in the union. Texas would be more like home and offer more amenities then the beach. What do you think? Any advice on something I'm missing would help.

Texas, and try Houston! Hawaii is insanely expensive. Live more cheaply in Texas and vacation in Hawaii if you want. Hawaii is a tough place to live full time.

Why Houston? Fort Worth seems nicer and safer.

FTW is nice and everything but Houston is bigger, has a better job market, and is more dynamic. I just think you should consider it.

Let me ask you this, do you want to live someplace more suburban and quiet or more urban and unpredictable?

Ive lived in both so I can point you the right way.

If you can comfortably afford both (and make a living) it's a no-brainer. Honolulu hands down.

By the way - DFW has geckos, too. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mediterranean_house_gecko

Wow you are seriously complaining about geckos? Only on CD.

I wasn't. The OP mentioned having to adjust to geckos in Hawaii. I was merely pointing out the fact that DFW had them, too.

I'm not sure yet. I'd like somewhere mellow yet convenient / walkable.
