So are the Vienna Beef hot dogs sold in Chicago different than the Vienna Beef hot dogs I can buy anywhere else in the grocery store?
And I love Chicago-style dogs, they might be my favorite hot dog style, though I'm just curious if people really believe they can't be duplicated outside Chicago.
Sure they can be duplicated. All other hot dog variations can probably be duplicated also. In NY shake shack makes a decent one and nationally sonic is also alright.
The difference is basically that the Seattle Dog is just newer and the Chicago Dog older. The Chicago Dog started at Fluky's by Abe Drexler around the time of the Great Depression and the Seattle Dog started by a Midwestern transplant named Hadley Longe in the 1980s who wanted to sell bagels originally and ended selling hot dogs outside the bars of downtown Seattle. The Chicago Dog has been around longer and has much more national popularity, but stop pretending like it's something magical. It's a good hot dog with a good selection of toppings.
Beer cheese soup is just German/Central European food basically, I've seen on menus all over the US and Canada that don't reference Wisconsin.
Um....what? I'm not pretending it's something "magical." I don't even prefer it, necessarily, to a regular hot dog with mustard. But it is definitely a recognized regional brand.
Maybe if the "Seattle hot dog" lasts ninety years and gains name-recognition outside of a very small, niche market, then I will recognize it as an actual regional variety of hot dog. Right now, though, it's just a cutesy gimmick. Sorry for the honesty...
to people saying there are to many toppings on the Chicago dog, those toppings are fresh tasting and light, not really dense like cream cheese or sriracha. so they dont overpower the hotdog
