Ok Om (stole your criteria and idea) - Here is one that might be interesting
My criteria:

- Nightlife
- Diversity (economy)
- Diversity (culture/people)
- Languages spoken
- Education
- Lifestyle
- Friendly people
- Climate
- Medicine (Hospitals, clinics, health related things)
- Natural scenery
- Shopping
- Economy overall
- Population city proper
- Benefits from location
- Public Transportation
- Airports
- Skyline
- Vibrancy of downtown
- Museums
- Theater, Music, & Arts scene
- History
- Parks
- Food
- Anything else you can come up with to compare these two cities.

Be civil, try not to bash, and be respectful of others's opinions.

And please, try to properly give reasoning why you picked a certain place and at least attempt to follow the criteria.

And yes, we just comparing the city, not the entire metropolitan area as well.

Be creative.

I've never been to Philly so I couldn't tell you.

Brooklyn is becoming the new Manhattan. We're about to have our own Arena, new condo's and they're starting to clean up here. Of course Brooklyn is better in my opinion, because it's my hometown.

Edit : As far as food BROOKLYN PIZZA is still the best! As well as our Spanish food. El Rey in East New York is top of the line!

There.

Philadelphia, however if Brooklyn was it's own city in it's own area it may have developed into more of a self sufficient city instead of just part of a city.

NYC subway (Brooklyn Portion):

[IMG][/IMG]

Philly's Subway and El (Not including PATCO since thats a railroad:

Can't see how public transit is tied tho. Theres probably more extensive bus service in Brooklyn than Philly too, matter of fact I know it is.

I thought this might be interesting but overall is hard to compare bc Brookly is really one part of NYC and misses on a few amenities due to proximty to Manhattan

a couple from abve that i thought were a slam dunk for Philly, but some others may be Brooklyns way

For Philly - no disrespect to Brooklyn but one area Philly excels is History, i think even beats NYC on the whole

Also economy, again too much commuting into Manhattan

Last is downtown, nothing against Brooklyn and I love many neighborhoods but I am not sure there is a real answer for center city, example Rittenhouse, that neighborhood can go toe to toe with most in Manahattan

But overall is tough to compare. On location i am surprised the proximity to Manhatten wasnt noted.

and to studdedleather, you should make the trip to Philly, hell it's close enough. You might be surprised.

I have lived in both and enjoy both immensly. I voted for my hometown but both are great areas to live.

This leaves out some of the subway surface rail but agree the NYC transit overall is far better. Also there is some regional rail that also is within the city and people use to commute. they all go underground with multiple stops and connections to center city. Also Patco does act as subway within the city, the traditional rail portion is leading in from NJ, very similar to the PATH, just not as extensive

But you are right on the Brooklyn transit, especially subway is far more comprehensive.

My criteria:

- Nightlife: Toss up, urban cities, plenty to do.
- Diversity (economy): Philadelphia
- Diversity (culture/people): Toss up, I really have no idea.
- Languages spoken: No idea actually, I think Brooklyn.
- Education: Philadelphia
- Lifestyle: Toss up, they're pretty different
- Friendly people: Subjective
- Climate: I don't think they're too different. Toss up.
- Medicine (Hospitals, clinics, health related things): Philadelphia
- Natural scenery: Philadelphia has some great views.
- Shopping: Philadelphia
- Economy overall: Philadelphia
- Population city proper: Brooklyn
- Benefits from location: Brooklyn, slight edge.
- Public Transportation: Brooklyn, more integrated because of NYC PT system.
- Airports: Philadelphia, Brooklyn doesn't have one, but JFK is a good airport.
- Skyline: Philadelphia, hands down.
- Vibrancy of downtown: Toss up, I think they can be pretty even.
- Museums: Philadelphia
- Theater, Music, & Arts scene: Philadelphia, but this one I am not exactly to sure on.
- History: Toss up, Philadelphia for nations history, Brooklyn has some great street history.
- Parks: Toss up, with the edge to Philadelphia
- Food: Personally I prefer Philadelphia, but in actuality this would be a toss up.
- Anything else you can come up with to compare these two cities.
Philadelphia, is my favorite city in the Northeast, I might have a slight biased for it. I like big cities, but not too big, which is why NYC can never out do LA, Chicago, Philadelphia for me on my list. That's just an INSANE amount of people for me to handle being around.

Be civil, try not to bash, and be respectful of others's opinions.

And please, try to properly give reasoning why you picked a certain place and at least attempt to follow the criteria.

Haha glad you liked my ideas and criteria, this truly was a good comparison. I want to be able to do more Philadelphia comparisons, but there rarely ever are threads for Philadelphia out there. I could use a break from the usual cities. Haha, everyone needs a change in scenery.

Thanks for the compliment in the original post Kidphilly (I took it as so).
