Both are great, but Chicago for me. I like the Great Lakes setting and there's more room to breathe.

Austin, TX or Denver CO?

Baton Rouge. It has LSU and is closer to the Nola and the coast. And it seems to be growing more.

I have no clue about either, but I guess I'll go with Fort Stockton.

Jacksonville...neither are particularly dynamic metros at this point in time, but at least Jacksonville is warm and coastal.

Yuck to both, but probably Bridgeport, CT since it's more breathable at least.

Plattsburgh, NY or Houghton, MI?

I'd go with Plattsburgh since I've at least been there. The downtown area is nice and there's a SUNY campus there. I love the Lake Champlain area--very scenic--and nearby Burlington is pretty nice. Plus you're only like an hour or so from Montreal.

Laredo, TX or Calexico, CA?

Calexico because it's close to LA, San Diego, and Joshua Tree.

Bellingham, WA vs Bangor, ME
