I prefer a counter-culture vibe to a flashy one any day of the week. People watching is a lot more interesting when the people go out of their way (sometimes to a fault) to look different rather than the same.

My god, you're obsessed with very close, very obscure Texas towns. I guess I'd go with Port Arkansas because it's on the ocean.

SF, because of the hills and the milder Winters and cooler Summers and proximity to redwood forests.

Santa Barbara because someone I know went there and she had a great time and thought it was very pretty although I am sure San Luis Obispo is too.
