This belongs in the City vs. City forum.

To answer your question, I don't think any one of the cities listed has all the attributes necessary to "rule" the Pacific Coast (whatever that means). Each city is unique in its own way. Some have natural beauty and great restaurants but lousy public transportation, Some have an attractive skyline and cultural diversity but it's hard to meet people, Some have great public transportation and a cool vibe but no jobs, some have beaches but no important architecture or sense of history, some have a lot of culture but terrible traffic jams and air pollution, etc. and so on. The city that "rules" is the one that has the most of whatever it is you are looking for.

This is a two horse race (some will inevitably say 1 horse race and that horse is named LA).

I don't think any of these cities rule the West Coast. The West Coast is similar to Texas in that there is no single city that dominates it. All the cities are spaced apart enough to have their own circle of influence.

In real life it's LA, but let most folks on City-Data tell it, it's San Francisco, and some on here are so dilusional that they will even say Seattle...
