Asheville and Burlington are 2 places we are considering. I know there are probably some wildly different things and some similarities - if anything comes to mind I'd love to hear!

Anything at all from cost of living, the feel of the personality/people/culture .. the weather (obviously more snow in vt)..

These 2 places strike me as slightly off-beat and outdoorsy - any thoughts at all are helpful.

Asheville is going to feel a bit bigger than Burlington, but neither are incredibly large cities.

Both are very liberal and progressive cities, though Burlington is located in a liberal state, Asheville is located in a right-leaning moderate state. Both have universities nearby.

Burlington has rail access to the points south. Asheville does not have rail access, but there are plans to connect it with the rest of the state.

The climate in both cities are similar, but Burlington is colder for more obvious reasons, and gets more snowfall than Asheville.

The closest major city to Burlington is Montreal. Asheville is close to Atlanta and Charlotte, and not too far away from the coast.

^ thanks!

I'd love to hear any thoughts on how the people/culture compare. I know people are people everywhere but at the same time I always can sense a subtle unique personality anywhere I have visited.

I actually looked at both places and I see alot of similarities . I think the bars and the brewing culture are alot more fun in asheville for sure but I liked the skiing in vermont a little more, though neither place is great for skiing like the west.

I thought there seemed to be more single women in asheville but that may have been time I was going good site for both places Both places have gorgeous scenery

They do seem similar funny enough. I have heard asheville has a different feel to the rest of NC (being more liberal/hippy)... I wonder if burlington is more liberal and less hippy though? And then there's the north influence vs the south influence perhaps? Would love to hear what others think!

We found NC to have some of the biggest, oddest looking bugs every plus there was a lot of humidity when we were there last week.

Burlington isn't really hippy people, but its a very liberal crunchy town. Vermont as a whole is a very liberal and friendly state, different mentality than North Carolina.
It is a wonderful area, the only negative that comes to mind is the snow.
