I currently live in Oakland, and am considering moving to NOLA. I'm making a few related threads to get as much info as I can about what it's like there (hopefully from people who have lived in both places [hopefully recently]). I've visited this last October and February (didn't experience the summer heat).

Examples of what I'm looking for:
Personal accounts.
Job markets (service industry, fitness, and holistic health)
Culture (LGBT, trans friendly, progressive mindset)
Cost of living (ability to save, quality for what you pay)
Access to nature activities (camping, beaches)
Festivities (music, burlesque, circus, dance, festivals)
Food (farmers markets, produce, meat)
Cuisine (cultural diversity)
Pace of life
Quality of life
Feel free to add more!

The type of stuff I'm not looking for:
Pre-Katrina information.
Pre-2013 Oakland information (before rent prices got out of control)
Walkability scores
Population density statistics
Public education or college comparisons

My personal info, for reference purposes, if you can give more relevant info:
26, androgynous genderqueer, male bodied, female identifying trans*. Massage therapy (medical, sports, therapeutic), fitness ([power] yoga, pole, barre), bartending, possibly line cook (used to, will work again if necessary), sex worker (porn, modeling, escort), polyamorous, kinky (BDSM, promiscuous).

I think it's great that youre looking to try New Orleans. Based on your post, I dont think you'll have any problems fitting in amd making friends.
