Why do so many people expect every city to have some sort of touristy draw? Houston stands on its own without a cliche niche.. Does the number of people visiting Houston from the UK really have a large impact on why it's overlooked/underestimated? Or are yall implying tourism equates to recognition?

1.) This is the City vs. City forum: It's GOING to draw outside opinions from people around the country and around the world. That's why it was placed in the City vs. City forum, to do just that, and to get answers and responses without bias from Houston boosters.

2.) The entire nature of the question being asked in this thread---Why is Houston such an overlooked big city---is SUPPOSED to invite outsiders' opinions and observations, in order to answer the question.

If anything, this thread has yet again predictably devolved into Houston boosters getting overly defensive and riled up when people are simply answering the question the OP asked and giving CONSTRUCTIVE criticism on how the problem of Houston being overlooked and underrated can be fixed.

Houston boosters are always upset about/wondering why Houston is not more recognized and respected outside of Houston and Texas, but as soon as people explain the reasons why Houston routinely gets overlooked and underrated, they get upset and defensive?

They do kind of go hand in hand. Popular cities are usually highly visited cities.

The way people talk about Houston reminds me of the way people talk about Mexico City or Milan. All three are unique, international cities that just don't seem to score high points with tourists.

As I said there is really nothing unquie. .just better known. ..due to marketing. .examples
Most tv shows based in NYC ( take place not the actual filming, almost a 120 yrs of NY being broadcast around the world.

L.A..Hollywood, actors, movies. .etc..

Chicago. ...nore...It connection to one of America's most crime ridden times..prohibition

Even Dallas. .that TV show..

But outside of those things what actually do they present that makes you say I'm spend thousands of dollars to go their...it the image they have created in pepole minds...nothing you can't do in 90% of any US city

But Mexico City and Milan both get a lot more tourists than Houston. Houston would be more comparable to a city like Kuwait City, Kuala Lumpur, or Doha. Very international, but they dont offer anything unique to a tourist.

Since Dallas also gets very few tourists, there really isnt a reason to compare it.

How on earth you think Chicago isnt unique with its history, neighborhoods, and archetecture is beyond me.

Rake pics..go to local nightlife...return to hotel
No, its not like that at all actually. People who visit LA are going to do the different things than San Francisco, Chicago, DC, or NYC.
