Then please provide us with your definition of 'prestigious'?

I found one:

Quote:
Pres·tige
preˈstēZH,preˈstēj/
noun
widespread respect and admiration felt for someone or something on the basis of a perception of their achievements or quality.
I just dont see how LA can be more prestigious than SF based on the widespread perception of achievements and quality. It's not possible.

The Bay Area wins in almost every way.

So by that definition:

Boston>LA
Seattle>LA
Portland>LA
San Diego>LA
Denver>LA
Vancouver>LA

In the case of Boston, probably.

I have no clue, SF maybe because they say they are? Maybe DC and their pretentious populous?

Good point, a lot of these cities are respected/admired for their perception of having a good quality of life compared to LA among the general population. So yes by Monty's definition all of those are more "prestigious" than LA lol.

the east coasters see the celebrity mansions in beverly hills as prestigious; eventhough, your polls mite be right about san fransisco being more prestigious (it was the fresh prince of bel-air/beverly hills, 90210/models inc./melrose place/... not the fresh prince of san-fransisco/...)

Not really, apart from some, they are usually seen as overpaid hacks who make more than they deserve, quite unlike the real important people of society who they think don't get paid enough.

Unless you were talking about 14 year old TMZ fangirls. In that case probably yes.

I honestly don't think anybody in LA cares about prestige. People hate LA no matter how and what we produce in terms of everything. So, prestige means nothing to us.

Haha OR it exposes the fact that Los Angeles has a lot to work on.

Let's be frank, in person, for a first time visitor, Los Angeles is a letdown compared to the glorified Kardashian LA that is shown on TV.

Gripes with LA mainly fall into a few categories:

It's gritty
"I don't dislike the city by any means, I just didn't expect the contrast of homeless people sleeping next to stars on the 'Walk of Fame'." "[T]here was a certain charm to Santa Monica and Venice (if you look past all the.. well wackos)." (Someone does respond to this commenter, reminding him or her that "The wackos are what made Venice.")

It's huge and jam-packed and there are many cars
"LA was an urban sprawl, dangerous and impossible to get under the skin of. I like a city that you can get to know on foot. LA is the opposite of that."
"LA is slow but (unless it's a hot day) everyone's on the same team ... The city's just too full of cars."

Wait, Hollywood is a tourist trap?
"LA kind of forces you to go into the crappy parts. Hell, Hollywood was the crappiest part of LA I visited."
"Hollywood is a major disappointment."

San Francisco has some of these problems too but still ranks among the world's most favored cities.

Every world city has an underbelly, but LA's seems to be front and center and that makes for a unpleasant surprise.

Yes perception and reality are two different things, probably why the definition you used might not be best for this thread IMHO.
