Here's the criteria:

1. Entertainment.
2. Weather
3. Cost of living (I would guess that Everett is more expensive).
4. The downtown area
5. Dining
6. Environment.
7. School.
8. Jobs
9. Uniqueness
10. Stores

Which city wins in which category?

1. Entertainment

This depends on what you're looking for, but Everett does have Comcast Arena in the city center that attracts concerts and shows that CDA can't host at this point. Otherwise if it is outdoor entertainment you're looking for I'd give the edge to CDA.

2. Weather

CDA is more of a true 4 seasons climate with warm sunny summers and cold (sometimes very snowy) winters. Everett is more temperate as is to be expected being close to the Sound.

3. Cost of living (I would guess that Everett is more expensive)

Everett is more expensive for many things, but a nice house or lakefront condo in CDA will not come cheap. Idaho's COL is lower in general, but you will pay a state income tax whereas you don't in WA.

4. The downtown area

I think CDA has the edge here right now. It's cleaner, right next to the lake, and a bit more pedestrian friendly. Everett is nice but a little more tired looking.

5. Dining

These cities are probably fairly evenly matched when it comes to dining, but I'm thinking CDA may have a couple of better high end options being a resort city.

6. Environment

Everett is part of the Seattle CSA, an area of over 4 million, so will have a more urban vibe and the greenery associated with western WA. CDA is part of the Spokane metro (approx 700k), so while it's not podunk it won't feel like a large city and has more of a high desert look to it.

7. School

Public schooling - not sure how they rank. Probably fairly evenly matched. CDA has branches of the University of Idaho, Boise State, LCSC, and North Idaho College all together in a campus setting. I believe Everett has equal offerings due to extension branches of most of Washington's major universities as well, and is much closer to major universities in Seattle.

8. Jobs

I'm probably going to have to give this to Everett just because the Puget Sound region is really on fire right now.

9. Uniqueness

I think CDA is more unique...it's very beautiful and in a great setting. Everett has some great scenery outside of the city, but Everett itself doesn't do much for me personally.

10. Stores

Probably evenly matched. Both have small regional malls, independent shops downtown, and the normal host of big box stores. Everett's advantage is being close to Seattle's shopping - but then again Spokane has most of what people are looking for too unless you want ultra high end (which is in Bellevue anyway).

It looks like a tie.
