Which Great Plains city has the best:
  • economy
  • public transit
  • museums
  • neighborhoods
  • park system
  • local universities
  • airport
  • food scene
  • outlook

* Do NOT vote for your city for the sake of "winning", it will throw off the poll
* Be as objective as possible
* NO bickering

So, which city is best?

Please share any experiences and have fun.

I don't consider the Texas cities the Great Plains nor do I consider Denver to be a Plains city, but if I had to rank these cities, I would rank them like this from best to worst.

1. Dallas
2. Austin
3. Denver
4. San Antonio
5. Kansas City
6. Omaha
7. Tulsa
8. Oklahoma City

I do consider Dallas as a Great Plains city, but not the others.

Anyway, based on the criteria Dallas is the clear winner. Had outdoor activities been a criteria, it could go either to Dallas or Denver.

Seems like Dallas takes this one pretty handily.

Wow!

I thought either Austin or Denver would blow the others out of the water.

Had you asked "which city is the best" and left the criteria blank, they probably would have. But based on the criteria, Dallas is the clear winner.

Having visited all those except Omaha I am surprised that Dallas beat out Austin and Kansas City. (no way Denver is in the Great plains). The food in Austin and KC blow Dallas away. Both are much prettier. To me Dallas is just a bigger oil boom town than Tulsa or OKC.
Now feel free to throw stones

No way KC has better food than Dallas unless you're talking about regional cuisine and Dallas has far more ethnic variety than Austin.

Also Dallas isn't an oil town. You're thinking of Houston.

Having lived in southeast Denver, I can certainly say the city is a part of the Great Plains.

While western Denver is more hilly the city itself is far more flat than people like to believe.

DIA itself was nothing more than tall grass before it was built.
