The real "straw man" here is claiming that people don't consider northern IL "flyover country." They do, in fact. In reality. Most people. I live in the area and often travel to the coasts, and I've heard it more often than not regarding Chicago and the rest of the Midwest. You can also Google thousands of discussions about it.

If you want to say the answer to the thread is.... not Chicago alone. But ALL the Midwest to people in the East and West? You should say so.

I surely know to Corporate America, Banking and those dealing with Investments. They DO NOT see Chicago as Flyover. Milwaukee Yes..... totally. Most of the US realizes Chicago is STILL THE 3RD largest Metro. It is a Transportation Hub that still is. Most know Things about Chicago especially its Skyline. You mention Milwaukee you probably would hear.... Beer and awwww not sure what else... oh the Brewers team .

TripAdvisor STILL gets SO MANY GREAT TOURIST REVIEWS for CHICAGO. It gives it the #2 TRAVELERS CHOICE AWARD AFTER #1 NYC, for 2015. THAT DOES NOT SAY FLY-OVER..... Best Destinations in the United States - Travelers' Choice Awards - TripAdvisor

Again.... The Whole Midwest is thought of LESS even LOWER Then the COAST, EAST and WEST.

BUT CHICAGO IS A CITY IN THE MIDWEST. BUT IN A CLASS BY ITSELF.

IT IS NEW YORKERS..... WHO CONTINUALLY LOOK DOWN ON CHICAGO... SO TO THEM IT IS FLY-OVER.
They probably penned the saying too.

I never knock Milwaukee. But you can't compare Chicago's Fly-Over claimers is as great as Milwaukee's....or all cities in the Midwest the same level of Fly-Over number of claimers. It is OVER-EXAGERATED as such by New Yorkers anyway.

There is a clear reason the Coast get most of the International Tourist too. As i noted before. NYC is the MUST SEE CITY and LA and SF.

Who gives a crap about Milwaukee? Chicago is part of the Midwest, like it or not, and many coastals do in fact consider it "flyover country." You can find people all over C-D saying it, you can Google or whatever and reply for 8 paragraphs with mostly capital letters and the overuse of emojis and a partridge in a pear tree, but it's not changing this fact.

Chicago still has its place in NATIONAL RECOGNITION OF CITIES BY AMERICANS.

This Poll says so.

Only North American cities in this list.
FOR PRESENCE. #3 out of 50 cities.

United States:
01. New York: 1st out of 50.
02. Chicago: 3rd out of 50.
03. San Francisco: 4th out of 50.
04. Los Angeles: 5th out of 50.
05. Boston: 6th out of 50.
06. Seattle: 8th out of 50.
07. Dallas: 9th out of 50.
08. Toronto: 13th out of 50.
09. Vancouver: 20th out of 50.
10. Mexico City: 33rd out of 50.

Chicago also WAS #2 out of 50 UNDER THE

POTENTIAL CATEGORY BY AMERICANS POLL.

So it STILL HAS RECOGNITION. HIGH IN ITS ....PRESENCE AND FOR POTENTIAL

That does not say flyover... But for New Yorkers Yes...

Stop with the false victimization. I've been to both coasts, and no one considers Chicago flyover country.

Depending on where you are flying to, any city can be considered as flyover country. Well, most cities can.
