I seriously doubt that. The hip hop awards are niched; not true of the main awards show. Only LA and NYC would be the desired locations. Not even DC where BET is actually headquartered.

And while I wish the news component would return, I think the network has definitely improved in the past five years or so in terms of programming.

Yup and can't forget Video Vibrations and tape delayed HBCU football games on Saturday nights. They still have Bobby Jones, as the last holdover from the old days.

Being Mary Jane and the RHOH are good. BET massacred The Game though.

It's hard to recall the time when BET was far less bombastic, blingy and bootylicious (I guess less blingy today now that 106 & Park is done). It seems like a lifetime ago.

And Bobby Jones is preparing to end the show...the longest-running show on cable.

BET has sucked since 2000.

Yeah I lost interest in The Game when it moved to BET.

You're right about that bygone era, but unfortunately that reputation hasn't died. A lot of people still seem to think of the network as a continuously-running episode of Rap City or Uncut.

I would occasionally tune in just to see Free until around 2002 or so.

Once you sully your brand, it's difficult to rebuild it. Not impossible, but difficult. BET for a lot of Black people still equals ignorance. BET's viewership probably peaks during its award shows and those aren't the best representation of Black America, imo.
