Personally, I'm a bit confused by the "best city in Texas" title that Austin is often given, when its own residents are suggesting Nashville, Tennessee as a viable alternative. Does this mean Memphis is just as awesome as Houston?
Unlike other Texas cities, Austin residents like to discourage growth. Houston strives to be "bigger than Chicago" one day. Austin residents want to keep Austin a secret.

No kidding. Some of us remember Austin as a large town, as opposed to the huge city it is now. The city wanted business and tech, but is not prepared to build the infrastructure to support new growth. Can't have it both ways, guys.
We drove to the Hill Country from Houston this past weekend, and for the first time ever, changed our route specifically to avoid Austin. Not much we enjoy about it now.
Yep. They suck at it, even though they're blunt about it. My first visit to Austin, I told the clerk I wanted to move there and he (I'm assuming he's half kidding) said "please don't. We are way too crowded." And he was a loser too! First time anyone has ever said that to me. But, common in Austin.

One of the city council members plan to stymie growth was to not improve the infrastructure. Really dumb.
We see how that worked out in LA. The city finally gave in and is building more transit.
These guys were even worse. There's two highways servicing a metro area of 1.5 million.
