San Diego has a murder rate of 2.3 per 100,000 in 2014, which is pretty impressive. For comparison sake Los Angeles was 6.7 per 100K, Houston was 10.9 per 100K, Chicago was 15.1 per 100K and Philly was 15.9 per 100K. It would be accurate to describe San Diego as one of the safest large cities in terms of murder rates.
I don't know if this is accurate since I'm not from California but it seems like Logan Heights (San Diego) might fit the criteria for this thread and from initial research seems to have a problem with gang violence.

The bad part of San Diego is the south side, near the Mexican border, and a couple of the suburbs down there like Chula Vista and National City
Yes! Most Raleigh residents even forget that area exists. I lived in Raleigh for most of my life and only went to that area a few times. There's really no reason to even go over there.
Southeast Colorado Springs is where most of the violent, gang-related activities take place.
