SF and NYC are no doubt the 2 premier Chinatowns in America. Who takes third? Not including Honolulu by the way. Keep it in the 48 contiguous states.

LOL! Please search previous threads on this topic.

You also have to specify what criteria you're considering.

SGV is arguably the best Chinatown in the U.S.

The other possibility would be Flushing, Queens, which is the best urban Chinatown.

Manhattan Chinatown and SF Chinatown probably cannot compare to either. I would put Sunset Park third, and then either Manhattan or SF Chinatown, probably in that order.

I live in LA so I know it LA well. I have only been to NYC, SD, DC and LA Chinatown.
The largest in terms of land area is LA, then NYC, SF, DC.

The nicest in terms of Chinese architecture/streetscape is San Francisco, LA, New York then DC. LA has more unique old Chinese looking buildings though. If you took out all the Chinese signs from NYC Chinatown would you know you are even in Chinatown? no. But the city architecture there is amazing like San Francisco.

The most vibrant ones with lots of people walking, shopping and being busy is SF, NYC, LA then DC.

The ugliest Chinatown is LA because it is old, dirty main and side street, lots of surface parking lots and office like buildings. Other than the "touristy" part north of College St. which is beautiful, the rest of the commercial area is a dump and the surrounding apartments are old stucco buildings. The majority of businesses and people of Chinese origin and also wealth are focused in the San Gabriel Valley cities from Arcadia, San Gabriel, Alhambra and Monterey Park, did I miss any?

So the 3rd Chinatown would be LA. Looking at the other cities Chinatowns on google streetview, they are smaller and lack Chinatown look/feel that the top 3 have.

I disagree with the bolded, Chinatown DC is probably the most urban/vibrant part of DC, LA would be last on that list.

I suspect you haven't been to these Chinatowns, at least based on your descriptions.
